Ok, so I passed the exams, won the election and now I am a sabbatical officer… Yes, I now represent 1000’s of students in one of the largest universities in the UK… It appears to have caused some minor shockwaves in the local SL community: “what is a sabbatical?”, “what do you mean you’re not studying next year?”, “how can you have a job? You haven’t finished your degree”, “when I was young…” etc. Yes, I have listened to everything you’ve all had to say and weighed it up using the only reasoning I have… my own.
The question that I still want answered… What on earth was I thinking??!!
I am already tired of explaining what I do mostly because it involves beating very fervently around the proverbial bush, due to one simple fact… I don’t really know. However, I take solace in my notion that most people who have ‘real’ jobs don’t really know what they do either.
Highlights of the week: well, I went on a training course to Preston (up north) from Monday to Thursday and met some cool people, got brainwashed by the NUS and tried to rebuild my long-lost alcohol tolerance… albeit not particularly successfully.
Low point of the week: replying to 2 emails from A-level students wanting clearing places for Medicine. I mean, what do you say to that?
All I know is that I’ve now started on another steep learning curve with a new set of challenges and a whole different set of lessons to be learnt. Anybody feeling excited?! Or is it nervousness?
