Angels

One day as I walked along life’s path,
An angel appeared by my side,
Time stood still as we talked and laughed,
Yet the world continued its ride.

She guarded and guided me,
To a path I could not see.
A companion in the unknown,
We travelled with my glee.

It seemed like an eternity
But suddenly she’d gone.
The walking had stopped,
And now, the wandering begun.

As the night drew in,
I moved with haste,
To find my way,
To a familiar place.

But when dusk had passed
And I could not see,
Wild-eyed and restless,
I slept under a tree.

And in my dream,
My angel did return,
Guarding and guiding,
Removing my concern.

I woke with an angel,
Sitting by my side,
Not the one from the walk,
Another, from my life.

She taught me anew,
She showed me the sun,
she made me smile,
And gave me fun.

That same day,
She vanished too,
Left me no trace,
What could I do?

So I found my old tree,
And counted the sheep.
And dreamt of angels,
In my sleep.

But when I woke,
The angels were gone,
A friend was there,
Who shone like the sun.

She gave me her hand
Helped me to my feet.
And told me a story,
Of a dream, in her sleep.

“I dreamt of an angel,
Flying in the sky,
But suddenly he fell,
Yet he did not die”

“He picked himself up,
And started to fly,
And as I watched,
I saw how he tried.”

“He fell again,
Not far from me,
As I nursed his wounds,
His face I did see”

“I’d seen it before,
Of that I’m sure,
He’d watched over me,
when I’d needed cure”
